Adventurer Acting

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3587133

Let’s start with the basics of acting and being on stage. That’s what this class is all about. What we do in this class is take children’s books, read them aloud, discuss them and act them out. We’ll create characters, we’ll act out scenes and we’ll totally laugh a lot. It’s called play so that’s exactly what we do (while sneakily teaching them the building blocks of acting). Did I mention there’s a lot of laughing?

Legendary Musical Theatre:  Heroes and Villians

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3587141

Back by Popular Demand, it’s Heroes and Villains! In all of Musical Theatre there is nothing quite so thrilling as the moment of catharsis when a Hero embraces their destiny through a powerful song. That is, unless it’s the moment where the Villain pours out their heart (and often, their whole plan) in a passionate song of their own! Great for learning character work through song, embrace your own inner hero and villain while singing your heart out in this exciting musical theatre class led by the amazing Ms. Becky!

Naughty Words With Shakespeare

Cancelled due to low enrollment

Fed up with calling your arch-nemesis the same thing every time he infuriates you? Why not use Shakespeare’s tools and create your own satisfying, descriptive, naughty insult? An absolutely fun way to introduce adventurers to the language of Shakespeare, learn how the bard put together some of the best insults ever- including inventing many words himself. By the end of the class, you have yourself a hilarious insult that’ll shock your enemies, siblings and sporting opponents into submission. And you won’t even be breaking any rules. Creating and combining insults and words in games and activities.

NOTE: Just as we do with our Foam Fighting, LARP, and Stage combat classes, we will also be teaching this as only something to do in this class. Similar to how we tell students “Just because you can hit hard, doesn’t mean you do hit hard” or that they are not to practice sword fights at home with siblings, we will also be prioritizing that these sayings are only to be used in class and not to used at home. We will also be teaching how words can hurt even friends and that verbal sparring/poking fun must, like all things, be done with consent.

The Private Life of Private Molly

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3587160

You probably know that we at EDGE Youth Theatre like strong three dimensional female leads. We also love history! So we asked local playwright Jillian Leff to dig deeper into the Revolutionary War and found a dynamic story. Deborah Sampson was a warrior. When the rest of her peers joined domestic projects to support the Revolution, she finds that a musket fits her hand better than a sewing needle. This powerful story challenges our perceptions of gender roles and gives insight into honor with The Private Life of Private Molly. Rick Olson will lead the charge in his direction of this bold new play. This is a production for our Legends.

Women in the Revolution

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3587215

We have all heard stories of the Founding Fathers, our History books are filled with them. But what about the Founding Mothers!? We have heard of Betsy Ross and the popularity of Hamilton has introduced many of us to Eliza Schuyler and her sisters, but what about the rest? We will take a great look at those names and many others such as Deborah Sampson, Patience Wright, and the mysterious Agent 335. What a great way to compliment working on a show about another Woman of the Revolution in The Private Life of Private Molly. Come learn the histories of the amazing Women of the Revolution!
