EDGE Youth Theatre’s Summerslam Line-Up

Summer 2018

One Day classes! Camps! LARP! Stage Combat! Light Sabers! Puppets! Whips! And More!

All classes are held outside in the park next to Waveland Clock Tower. They will run rain or shine, unless there’s a great deal of rain or cold; if that occurs, they will be moved to Pendulum building (if it is a Session class) or rescheduled if a LARP Event (we will notify parents via email as soon as possible in the event this happens). Drop-ins are welcome in some classes; Please check the “Notes” section. Classes, of course, must meet their minimum to run at all.

Details and Perks of the Park:  There is plenty of metered parking. The Irving Park (#80) and Addison (#152) buses are also great options, plus several inner Lake Shore Dr. buses. There are public bathrooms, plenty of shade, and a lovely bar/cafe nearby. Drop your kid off or stay and enjoy the park! Sign up for 3 (paying classes) and get one free!

Address of Waveland Clock Tower:

Classes are to the far south of the clock tower behind the bird sanctuary. Parking is available either next to the tower or across the baseball fields on Recreation Drive. The park space we use is roughly between Addison and Irving Park.

48-Hour Threadbare Shakespeare:  A Comedy of Errors (Script in Hand) (Register Here!)

Instructors: Kevin and Rick

Join us as we dive into a condensed version of one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies as we tackle “A Comedy of Errors” in this fast-break, fun-filled staging!  Using little more than the script in our hands and the beauty of the nature around us, we will let the language of the bard guide us as we put up a show in a 48-hour window.   Participants do NOT need to be experts in Shakespeare to enjoy this class, just willing and wanting to learn about it! The first day of Camp will be spent understanding the meaning of the words and doing staging in the park.  On the second day, we will rehearse the show before lunch and then do a performance for friends and family after lunch!

Requirements:  As we will be performing this script in hand, reading is highly encouraged.

Notes:  Threadbare Shakespeare means we will be doing the production with very minimal props or costumes.

Primary Teacher: Rick and Kevin

Tier: All Tiers, reading is super helpful

Cost $50

Comedic Stage Combat (REgister here!)

Over the years, we have become highly trained and skilled in the art and weapons of Stage Combat, but what happens when the fight is designed to get laughs from the audience? This class will teach the techniques needed to fight safely while allowing for the absurdity that makes a fight comedic. Over-reactions, under-reactions, and found weapons all play a part when it’s time for a fight to take a turn to the comedic!
